E&I Engineer

Job Summary:

The E&I Engineer is responsible for performing all phases of electrical & instrumentation control maintenance throughout the plant safely and effectively.

Principal Responsibilities of the E&I Engineer:

  • Perform all electrical & instrumentation maintenance including but not limited to preventive, corrective, and emergency repairs on all equipment.
  • Perform installation of new or replacement electrical and instrumentation equipment, as well as electrical construction.
  • Locate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical & instrumentation and control system malfunctions. Document problems and results and report them to Group Leader.
  • Follow standard safety procedures, correct safety and environmental hazards and report them to appropriate supervisor.
  • Complete necessarily training programs within the time frame allowed.
  • Maintain a clean work area at all times.
  • Maintain daily work log with work descriptions, time entry and any additional information requested by supervisor.
  • Be available to work overtime on emergency base or as directed by supervisor.
  • Respond to call-ins for emergency repair work and perform on call duty based on rotational schedule or as directed by supervisor.

E&I Engineer Requirements:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • 5+ years’ work experience as an electrician, preferably in a paper mill or industrial setting.
  • Proficient knowledge of Electrical & Instrumentation; electrical equipment functioning; electrical operating procedures and standards to support cost effective, safe, and efficient equipment and instrumentation maintenance, repair.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local electric codes and environmental permit regulations pertaining to electrical & instrumentation functioning.
  • Highly proficient working with Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLCs and drives
  • Expert I&E troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient with Studio 5000 logics is a plus
  • Proficient with Seimens PLCs/Drives/Motors is desired but not required
  • Experience with Mitsubishi PLCs and drives is desired but not required

Essential Functions of the E&I Engineer:

  • Ability to access confined spaces thru standard man ways.
  • Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations
  • Ability to lift up- to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating and uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $125,000.00 – $140,000.00 per year

Job Summary:

The Master Electrician is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient daily operation of the electrical department including but not limited to leading, training, and ensuring the success of multiple journeymen, helpers, and apprentice electricians. The master electrician is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient electrical maintenance of all paper manufacturing, converting, and facility equipment. This includes all equipment needed to repulp wastepaper and broke, clean and screen recovered fiber, and manufacture and convert paper. The Master Electrician is accountable for maintaining an inventory of critical spares, consumable parts, and standard stock items. Significant experience with process industry manufacturing, high-speed rotating equipment, variable speed drives, electric motors (AC and DC), soft starts, motor control centers, and various instrumentation is required. The ability to forecast maintenance needs, execute work to meet timelines and budgets, and schedule and lead contract workers and suppliers is a key responsibility.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Safety:

  • Ensure all work performed by internal resources and contractors complies with Soundview’s safety policies and results in an incident-free work environment
  • Evaluate all projects and/or work tasks prior to execution to ensure no safety hazards are created during work performed

Legal and Compliance:

  • Ensure the condition of all paper manufacturing and converting equipment is in compliance with applicable federal. state, and local regulations and/or codes
  • Ensure all work needing professional certifications and/or stamps is identified and properly approved prior to execution
  • Ensure all contractors engaged have required certifications for the work they will execute

Principal Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Lead the electrical department in safety, compliance, daily work duties, and matters of the departmental and company budgets
  • Develop the Journeyman, helper, and apprentice electricians within the company
  • Interact with corporate resources when needed and applicable
  • Be the resident electrical and electronic expert
  • Diagnose failing electrical and electronic componentry
  • Very good working knowledge of PID Loop tuning
  • Ability to program PLCs such as Allen-Bradley, Modicon, and Foxboro. Troubleshoot using Controllogix
  • Be able to troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Very good working knowledge of power distribution and high-voltage switching procedures
  • Very good working knowledge of troubleshooting with a DCS
  • Understand electrical metering
  • Troubleshoot AC/DC motor and controls
  • Understand electrical systems’ predictive maintenance testing procedures
  • Perform all electrical & instrumentation maintenance including but not limited to preventive, corrective, and emergency repairs on all equipment.
  • Perform installation of new or replacement electrical and instrumentation equipment, as well as electrical construction.

  • Program and/or input software changes in PLC’s or computerized system equipment for operations or maintenance as required.
  • Proficiency in the repair of relays, switches, VFDs, supervisory controls, and indicating and recording instruments.
  • Assist in the engineering of new and/or replacement electrical equipment projects.
  • Research problem causes equipment failures and alternate systems.
  • Oversee, train, and direct other Electricians.

Minimum Requirement:

  • Minimum of two-year associate or technical degree
  • Proficient knowledge of Electrical & Instrumentation; electrical equipment functioning; electrical operating procedures and standards to support cost-effective, safe, and efficient equipment and instrumentation maintenance, and repair.
  • Basic knowledge of Mechanical, Hydraulic, and Pneumatic equipment to support safe and efficient minor equipment repair.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local electric codes and environmental permit regulations pertaining to electrical & instrumentation functioning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all federal, state, local, and company safety procedures and ability to execute same.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and work from electrical and electronic blueprints.
  • Knowledgeable in electrical and electromechanical devices to perform and direct diverse tasks involving but not limited to motors, panels, portable equipment, tools, etc.
  • Proficiency in the repair of relays, switches, VFDs, supervisory controls, and indicating and recording instruments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The job is primarily performed in a 24/7 manufacturing environment that may be noisy, hot, dusty, and humid. The environment can be stressful at times with deadline pressure to complete multiple priorities. Working OT, weekends and holidays is required. Participation in off-hour, weekend, and holiday call rotation is mandatory.
